In a time of increasing antisemitism and heightened awareness of LGBTQ+ issues, clinical psychologists face the critical task of supporting LGBTQ+ Jewish clients with sensitivity and understanding. This one-hour presentation, titled ‘The Importance of Cultural Humility and Allyship: Supporting LGBTQ+ Jewish Clients in Clinical Psychology Amid Rising Antisemitism,’ Dr. Weissman will explore the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ Jews and provide practical strategies for clinicians. Participants will learn about the intersection of LGBTQ+ identities and Jewish culture, the impact of rising antisemitism, and the ways that allyship can create safer and supportive therapeutic environments. Attendees will leave with enhanced awareness and tools to better serve LGBTQ+ Jewish clients, fostering resilience and well-being in these complex times. The webinar will include an opportunity for discussion with participants.

Dr. Abigail
Dr. Abigail “Abi” Weissman, Psy.D. (they/she) is a queer nonbinary and female Jewish California Psychologist and Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapist (MHP-500). They is the founder of Waves, A Psychological Corp., a San Diego, CA – based group practice whose psychologists center LGBTQI+ mental health through talk, EMDR, and yoga therapy, consultation, and APA – accredited educational services. Dr. Weissman is an adjunct instructor for the University of San Diego’s Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science. They has authored a chapter in Liberating Gender for Jews and Allies: The Wisdom of Transkeit (2023) based on their dissertation research on working with trans Jews. They also has a Master of Arts in Human Sexuality Studies from San Francisco State University with a focus on lesbian gender identity and have a sex education certificate from San Francisco Sex Information. They is in an interfaith marriage with an educator and together, have an amazing 6.5 year old daughter whom they are raising Jewish.
