Some of What We Don’t Know—and Don’t Know We Don’t Know—About Holocaust Survivors

Some of What We Don’t Know—and Don’t Know We Don’t Know—About Holocaust Survivors

This webinar is presented by Henry “Hank” Greenspan, Ph.D., Emeritus, University of Michigan
Date: Sunday, August 24, 2025
Time: 5:00 pm PT / 6:00 pm MT / 7:00 pm CT / 8:00 p.m. ET
The webinar is approximately 60 minutes long, and the ZOOM link will be sent in the email confirmation when you register. We will also email you a few days before the webinar.

Based on more than fifty years of collaborative engagement with Holocaust survivors—as psychologist, oral historian, and playwright—Hank Greenspan will push us to think hard about how much we don’t know, and often presume to know, about Holocaust survivors. The program will be highly interactive.  Hank will bring questions to the attendees that were questions—often surprising ones—for him during his decades of work. For example, why do audiences at his play, REMNANTS, almost always ask about some aspects of survivors’ experience and almost never about others, including the most central? Why did the would-be members of his doctoral committee assert—in 1975—that “the survivors are all dying”? He will draw especially on his just published literary memoir, REMNANTS and What Remains: Moments from a Life Among Holocaust Survivors (2025), as well as his seminal On Listening to Holocaust Survivors: Beyond Testimony (2010).
